The early years for the Formula boating company brought independent boating manufacturers together to eventually create what has become a multi-generation family-owned-and-operated company that covers the gamut in boat design options. In 1958, Victor Porter was building fiberglass runabouts in the Midwest while Woodie Woodson was building the Thunderbird line in Miami. Both were enjoying early success while Don Aronow founded Formula in 1962, also in Miami, where he was perfecting the 233 Deep-V hull.Throughout the 1960s and early 70s, these companies were bought and sold by firms like Alliance Machine and Foundry, Duo, Inc., and Fuqua. By 1976, Victor Porter purchased Thunderbird/Formula from Fuqua, and began established his lengthy legacy at the head of what is now known simply as Formula, where his four children, and now their children as well, build sun sports, cruisers, yachts and high-performance speed boats in a nearly 600,000 square-foot facility in Decatur, IN. Unlike some boat builders who simply make larger and smaller versions of essentially the same boat, Formula's various models focus on design elements that truly capture why an owner chose that particular style. For instance, on the pleasure boats are designed with lots of room and convertible seating and large swim platforms for sunseekers, plenty of room in the easily assessable cockpit and amenities for entertaining for a comfortable day on the water. The FASTech models, on the other hand, are all about a powerful smooth ride paired with sleek looks, with striking graphics that extend to the dash. Below deck, the modern design continues, including LED lighting. Formula has long been a strong force in the speedboat arena, winning several world championships in the 2000s.Moving into the yacht class, Formula focus shifts to ultra-luxury finishes like Ralph Lauren decor choses in the double-wide helm, deep cherry cabinetry, Corian countertops and many other high-end inclusions that come standard. With 55 years of quality boatbuilding under its belt, Formula has put out boats that last and provide a wide array of options for those looking to purchase a used Formula boat. In the POP Yachts listings, we have more than 100 Formula boats available in a variety of models, including the sleek 2002 Formula 292 FASTech pictured above.
